Spring into Romance at the Coolest Honeymoon Hotspot in the Catskills

Globetrotting Cindy is back on the hunt for the finest romantic getaways. Today, she reviews The Roxbury Motel, one of the best-kept secret in the Catskills, New York.  Check out her report…

If you’re looking for the standard cookie cutter luxury hotel room, then the Roxbury is not for you!  When you walk into your room, you can’t help but smile at the coolness of each individually designed room. To be honest I was a bit skeptical. How can a hotel design luxury “themed” rooms?  Well, the Roxbury does it perfectly. Their themed rooms, most inspired by famous TV series of the 1960’s and 70’s focus on colors, textures and designs to bring you back to your favorite shows in a super classy way.

Rooms range from cozy studios, rooms with kitchenettes, three-room suites, all with a full array of amenities.  The entire upstairs of the main house is also available for groups that want to spread out, perfect for a bachelorette or bridal party.

Here’s a sampling of some of the fun suites:

Fred’s Lair (The Flintstones): Their own play on the Flintstones, with faux-rock walls, a pebble-stone shower and a bedspread made of fake fur.

George’s Spacepad (The Jetsons): This suite features “futuristic” furniture, metallic wallpaper, and a red bathtub right in the living room.

Genie’s Bottle (I Dream of Jeannie): I loved staying in this harem suite with a 70-gallon bathtub in a Jeannie’s-bottle bathroom, complete with a wall-mounted flat screen and lots of pinks, purples and glitter.

The Shagadelic Suite:  Offers a zebra-print sofa and mirrored mobiles in the bedroom.

The Miss Kitty’s Saloon: Is a whimsical bordello with corset lamps and red velvet everywhere.

The Digs: Their newest suite and most expensive suite, the Digs is an archeologist’s dream. It is a stand-alone cottage with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, living and bar area, full gourmet kitchen, outdoor shower, outdoor deck with two dining tables, hidden treasures, maps and secret passageways.

There are two small spas on property, one in each building, with a hot tub, dry sauna, fireplace, “green steam” (steam room made entirely of recycled windshield glass), and foot-massaging river-rock shower. A $20 fee for your entire stay gets you into both spas, and is well worth it.

Breakfast is included in your stay and the delicious homemade pastries and cakes are worth the calories.  For fine dining nearby, try the Peekamoose Restaurant, whose owner and chef is Gramercy Tavern veteran.

Spring rates start at $285 a night for a two-bedroom suite.

Last Travel Fling Before Wedding Bells Ring: Cliff House Resort & Spa, Maine

The Cliff House Resort & Spa was one of the suggestions for my bachelorette trip. Here’s the scoop:

* Who: Gals who want to enjoy New England’s great outdoors, biking, swimming and quaint villages while knowing a mani/pedi is just minutes away.

* What: A classic New England Seaside retreat with pampering amenities, luxe spa treatments, eco-friendly practices and fabulous oceanfront dining. Opened in 1872, the resort features 194 guest rooms each with an oceanview balcony.

* When: Ideal for summer or fall. During July and August, the resort offers complimentary trolley service to Perkins Cove, downtown Ogunquit and Ogunquit beach.

* Where: Located on the south coast of Maine, just an hour from Boston, its a great option for a road-tripping girl’s getaway.

* Don’t Miss: Spa lovers will be in heaven! The oceanfront, adults-only spa building contains a full-service spa, 75-foot lap pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room, fitness center, spa boutique and 32 oversized guest rooms. Local ingredients are incorporated into spa services such as the Maine Blueberry Body Wrap and the Maine Blueberry Manicure and Pedicure. Other body treatments, facials and massages sound great too including the Cliff House Seashell Massage (uses warm seashells to balance your energy, improve circulation and boost lymphatic drainage) and the Wild Lime Blossom Scalp Massage.

* Booking: The resort offers a variety of year-round packages. My favorites are the 3-night Seaside Shopper and Spa Sampler programs or the 2-night Spa & Coastal Shopper. Pricing varies by season and mini-suites are available too (extra $50 per night) for an even more luxe getaway.

Happy Blog-iversary to me!!!!

Guess what?  The Globetrotting Bride blog is turning one today!   It’s been a fun ride so far.  If you haven’t subscribed to the RSS feed yet the link is:   http://feeds.feedburner.com/globetrottingbride/KQVo. And you can find me on Facebook and Twitter too.

To commemorate my first anniversary, I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite posts from way back when:

Have passport and panties, will travel…

One of my very favorite friends never ever leaves home without her Blackberry, her passport and a pair of spare panties. She has learned to be prepared for any last minute travel deals, overseas business trips and perhaps an upcoming proposal (hint, hint you know who you are).

I going to surprise her with some Passport Panties, emergency panties cleverly disguised in a color coordinated faux crocodile passport cover. Your choice of styles (boy short and thong) and colors (champagne, tomato cocktail, black coffee, latte, pink lemonade and sparkling water) for $22 to $26 each.

If you can get past the Mad Men era airline stewardesses on the website, check them out. I think they’d be a great shower gift for a Globetrotting Bride-to-be or a cute “Will you be my bridesmaid?” present for a destination wedding. Or just an all around good item to throw in your carry-on for your next getaway. Just be careful not to give them to the customs officer…

Have a great weekend!!!!!

Jennifer Aniston’s Wedding Friendly Summer Hairstyle

I love this chic, summer Jennifer Aniston hairstyle spotted on the Jet Set Girls.  So easy to do, yet it can totally be dressed up for a chic engagement party or dressed down for a casual bachelorette get together.  I think it would also be a fun bridesmaid look…

Skinny Girl Margaritas! Ole!

I learned on Cinco de Mayo that a typical margarita has about 740 calories! I had no idea my favorite cocktail could be as fattening as a cheeseburger…

Since I love The Real Housewives of New York, I thought I’d share with you Bethany Frankel’s recipe for The Skinny Girls Margarita that was featured on the show last week:

The Skinny Girls Margarita

On the Rocks

What you’ll need:

* 2 oz of clear Tequila (100% agave, Patron Silver) count 1, 2 while you pour, no need for measuring
* A splash of fresh lime juice
* A splash of Cointreau, Grand Marnier or Triple Sec

Combine all ingredients over a glass of ice

Garnish with a lime wedge and salt (or sugar) if you’d like.

Since everyone loves a margarita, why not mix up a batch of these for your next bachelorette party or summer BBQ? I think they would also make a great signature cocktail for engagement parties and weddings too.
